DEA Scheduled Drugs

The DEA Scheduled program establishes specific standard operating procedures for disposal of DEA Schedule II, III, IV and V controlled substances. This procedure provides research personnel assistance with disposing of unwanted or expired controlled substances in a safe and controlled manner. Schedule I drugs will be handled on a case by case basis.

Licensed research personnel can submit a chemical pickup request to initiate the disposal process. Complete the online chemical pickup request form indicating the contact information, controlled substance name with DEA schedule number, state, hazard classification (controlled substance), container type, number of containers and total weight/volume of material. The University utilizes a third party reverse distributor to destroy all controlled substances.

Individuals in possession of controlled substances who are not licensed or have an expired license must contact the Special Agent in Charge in the area to determine the disposal process.

Review the DEA Controlled Substance Disposal Procedure for more details.
